SAIGON THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD

To many the name Brian Carenard will not mean much, but to true hip hop fans if you refer to him by his moniker SAIGON a few eye brows will begin raise. Often publicised for his out the studio activities, the new york native rapper for the past few years been bludgeoning what would seem a path to critical acclaim and notoriety.

In between a few scrapes with law enforcement, other rappers and the usual disputes with label bosses Saigon has remained determined in his quest to be mentioned among the new wave of rappers emerging in the 21st century.

As mentioned before no stranger to controversy, Saigon has spent time in jail, seen footage of him punching Prodigy of Mobb Deep hit the net and also managed to engineer a release from former label Atlantic whilst keep 100% of his publishing.

A Busy man indeed, however in 2007 the hip hop industry was nearly robbed of future endevours for this undoubtedly talented artist when rumours on the Internet surfaced that he had QUIT... An attempted robbery and subsequent stabbing had lead the artist to believe that the fame wasn't really worth risking his life for. Luckily for us mentor and primary Producer Just Blaze took him under his wing and put him in the studio to record a debut album.

The LP was tentatively name The Greatest Story Never Told and was touted as a potential classic in many quarters, however label problems saw the project pushed back, so far that we never thought we'd see its release.

Again luckily to the delight of fans the turn of the year saw Saigon sign to Suburban Noize Records in conjunction with Just Blaze's Fort Knocks Entertainment and on 15 Feb 2011 the LP was released online, quickly topping the Hip Hop album charts.

The Greatest Story Never Told is a mellow collection of heart churning Hip Hop blessed with occasional star appearance from the likes of Jay-Z and Bun B. Its source 4.5 mic rating for me is fully justified as Saigon took the risk of not conforming to the current climate of music hitting our charts.

Many of the tracks are filled with Socio-political content, but remain listenable due to the rappers unique gift to place person pain into his stories. In particular the Kanye West Produced Its Alright featuring the Marsha Ambrosius is testament to the feel of the entire album, pianos and subtle melodies with angelic vocals from the likes of Faith Evans and Raheem Devaugn, make the album flow well.

My only criticism is the continual use of wordy skits/interludes, they work very well with concept albums but the music alone on this album works well enough on its own! However still a definitive purchase and definitely gonna be one of the better albums of the year.

The Greatest Story Never Told is available now on ITunes.... GO GET IT!!!

Kind regards

R'z
